Facebook Status

I believe that life in general is devoted to passion, without it what would any certain one of us be? Whether we are searching for it finding it or have found it, there is beauty in the process. And I am truly happy to be on my way. Each of us will have our own path, but our devotion and love that we will put into it is the rawest and rarest beauty that will ever be found.

Where it all started... my reseach.

My research began when I stated thinking about how much I have grown as a person and changed over the years. Looking back at me as a high school senior I would have never in a million years imagined myself blogging for an Art Practice class at Pittsburg State University. My life now seemed so out of reach for me at the time. When did I decide to follow a dream? Where did I get the courage to venture out of my comfort zone? Was it all destined to be from the beginning? If I would have made different decisions would I be a totally person than I am today? I recently had a night of wishful thinking. Most people who know me would describe me as shy and soft spoken, but those who know me best have shared some of the most in depth conversations that I could ever imagine. And let me tell you I very rarely find myself on Facebook due to the the annoyance of drama, negativity and complaints. So when I updated my status late one evening, followers took notice. Comments like you're quite the...

IPad Drawings

While enrolled in Life Drawing we were given IPads to use during the semseter. Working on an IPad was new to me. I was unsure about it at first but learned how to create texture, add shadows and create a rather smooth image from using a stylist or just a fingertip. The drawing app. bushes is what I tend to use. My favortie feature of the app. is that it creates a video of your process, and when finished it is rewarding to see how you began and what you accomplished. I am working on a new image with the IPad and plan to upload the beginning of my work ASAP. Hopefully I can figure out how to upload them as videos eventually.

Life Drawing

From Life Drawing class I have gained a better understanding of the skeleton and the proportions of the human body.

Mediums

Study of an old master. I used to prefer to work in graphite until I became familiar with charcoal.  Charcoal I tend to mass in the structures and rely on a kneaded eraser for the details. I like the dramatic constant the the charcoal can achieve. I sometimes feel that I work rather slow, hopefully by doing gesture drawings I can begin to speed up the process and focus on the details towards the end. Experimenting with pan pastels

Welcome!

Welcome to Lauren Downing's Art Blog. I am currently a student at Pittsburg State University. My major is Commercial Art and my minor is Graphic Design. Before Pitt State I attended Kansas City, Kansas Community College and took a semester at Kansas University. This is my first semester enrolled in Commercial Art course and I hope to gain a better understanding of which direction I want to go. I have mostly taken drawing classes and feel that that is where I am the strongest. Charcoal is my favorite medium and I enjoy drawing from a realistic point of view. This semester I hope to expand my knowledge and venture into new areas in order to progress as an artist. Lauren A.Downing
