Writing 5 / Critique 4

I collected feedback on the series I created for the Senior Show. Below Here are a select few from the collection. With the completion of this series I was advised to plan for the future. "It is always keep a new project in mind in order to continue growing artistically", said someone. With this semester coming to an my post is a little extra.  I am proud to announce that I have accepted an internship for the Summer of 2015 with the Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation. There I will be contributing my artistic skills to design multiple t-shirts for the organization. With that being said I want to keep a creative mindset through the summer and continue to push myself in the use of new mediums and techniques. I am really interested in the process of animation and while I am not happy with the previous GIF file that I created in the past I hope to make a few more for experience. Artist Lecture: Ariel Bowman

Ariel Bowman's work has recently been showcased in our very own Porter Hall Gallery. Her series titled Magnificent Migration includes prehistoric animals in circus attire.  She presented her work in a professional manor, beginning with some background information about herself and mentioning her influences along the way. She made sure to show the audience plenty of photos relating to her processes which proved to be very helpful. Her work tends to vary in size and it could be hard to imagine how she were to place the pieces together if it weren't for an actual visual in front of us. I did not have any questions for the artist, I believe she did a good job at explaining her work. From the talk I took away the idea that artist put themself into their work more often than not. Ariel said " when we decorate something, we believe its special" and I was able to see where she was coming from with that. For more about Ariel Bowman check out http://www.arielbowman.com/

Writing 4(blog posts)for Crit 3

In the past critiques I have received positive feedback from portraits that I have inked. So I have decided to work back in that direction that I enjoy. As of now, I am working to complete a series of portraits using mixed media. I have created a family tree by using graphite and watercolor on bristol. I intend the series as a whole to resemble myself through my style and use of color. I'm working with the idea that family like a tree will branch in many directions but the roots remain the same. Mary, Mixed Media, 2015 Aside from my work, I choose to take a look at  Jacqueline Denton's recent work. While her style always remains consistent, you can see the progression she has made through the recommendations of critique class. I enjoy Jacque's work and admire the cohesive vibe each piece brings. I can't wait to see what she has planned next!  http://jacquelinedenton.com/

Critique 2 (blogpost3)

As for my current independent work, I am working to expand my design portfolio. I feel that I have an advantage in doing so because of the broad span of classes I have taken at Pittsburg State University. I plan to combine the skills I have learned through, my major in Commercial Art, and my minor in Graphic Design. I believe that these two chosen fields not only complement each other, but will bring a unique edge to my portfolio. Right now I am also working on gathering imagery and inspiration for a series. I have found that I enjoy piecing images together, in order to create an entirely new one. I plan to make a family tree that will allow the viewer to see a glimpse into the past through mixed media. I want the series as a whole to reflect upon myself and those that I cherish so greatly. I choose to right a review of Molly McVey's work. She mostly works in photography and since our last critique I can tell that she has taken the advice given and expan...

Writing 2 Blog Post for Critique 1

As I near my end at Pittsburg State University my focus has been on applying for internships which entitles a digital portfolio. I plan to use Critique class to get feed back on which work to include and which to leave out. And recommendations would will be greatly appreciated. I plan to have a digital portfolio or 11-13 files ASAP. I also will be thinking about my senior show which will likely include similar work but 11-13 in a portfolio and 2 that will physically hand in the space. For the last few weeks we have been learning how to draw the human skeleton proportionally from memory. By taking one bone at a tie we have finally come to the end of the exercise and will be working with a real life model next. Here are sketches from my sketchbook I hope to use they knowledge that I have gained in this class to create a piece of work that is portfolio quality.       This one component to a piece I plan to work on this semester. During Senior Seminar we hav...

Lecture Series: Art Therapy

I attended the lectures given by, Dr. Harriet Bachner + Melinda Ledlow, Jessica Stallings + Dr. Gaelynn Wold Bordonaro, Dr. Janice Jewett, Josie Mai and last but not least the presentaion given by Maria Lupo. All around this was my favorite lecture series presented so far. The content in each lecture spoke to me on a personal level. Not that long ago I found myself in a stage of an anxiety filled depression. I attemped to create a piece of work a day and instead of storing them away I hung the artwork on my blank walls. The change in scenery brought inspirtation and helped create a more positive outlook on life. Now I am surrounded by two best friends and a sister in the medical field. There experiences with patients has been a great influence on me. I had looked into the occupation of Art Therapy in the past but after the lecture series, I plan to visit Emporia State University this Spring to check out all they have to offer.
