Artist Lecture: Ariel Bowman

Ariel Bowman's work has recently been showcased in our very own Porter Hall Gallery. Her series titled Magnificent Migration includes prehistoric animals in circus attire.  She presented her work in a professional manor, beginning with some background information about herself and mentioning her influences along the way. She made sure to show the audience plenty of photos relating to her processes which proved to be very helpful. Her work tends to vary in size and it could be hard to imagine how she were to place the pieces together if it weren't for an actual visual in front of us. I did not have any questions for the artist, I believe she did a good job at explaining her work. From the talk I took away the idea that artist put themself into their work more often than not. Ariel said " when we decorate something, we believe its special" and I was able to see where she was coming from with that.

Welcome!

Welcome to Lauren Downing's Art Blog. I am currently a student at Pittsburg State University. My major is Commercial Art and my minor is Graphic Design. Before Pitt State I attended Kansas City, Kansas Community College and took a semester at Kansas University. This is my first semester enrolled in Commercial Art course and I hope to gain a better understanding of which direction I want to go. I have mostly taken drawing classes and feel that that is where I am the strongest. Charcoal is my favorite medium and I enjoy drawing from a realistic point of view. This semester I hope to expand my knowledge and venture into new areas in order to progress as an artist. Lauren A.Downing
