Writing 2 Blog Post for Critique 1

As I near my end at Pittsburg State University my focus has been on applying for internships which entitles a digital portfolio. I plan to use Critique class to get feed back on which work to include and which to leave out. And recommendations would will be greatly appreciated. I plan to have a digital portfolio or 11-13 files ASAP. I also will be thinking about my senior show which will likely include similar work but 11-13 in a portfolio and 2 that will physically hand in the space.

For the last few weeks we have been learning how to draw the human skeleton proportionally from memory. By taking one bone at a tie we have finally come to the end of the exercise and will be working with a real life model next. Here are sketches from my sketchbook I hope to use they knowledge that I have gained in this class to create a piece of work that is portfolio quality.

This one component to a piece I plan to work on this semester. During Senior Seminar we have been discussing possible themes that connect all of our art. It has been proven that all of our work stems from ourselves and so I thought to keep that in mind when working this semester. I plan to make a piece that holds personal meaning to me through symbolism. The sunflower representing my grandfather and a delicate tea pot that will represent my grandmother. When I think back to my childhood these were the subjects that I thought of that reminded me of them. The teapot watering the flower symbolizing the love and strength that can be found in one another.

Infographics are a new way to layout my illustrations. I have yet to find a perfect composition but have been researching my subject matter.

Welcome!

Welcome to Lauren Downing's Art Blog. I am currently a student at Pittsburg State University. My major is Commercial Art and my minor is Graphic Design. Before Pitt State I attended Kansas City, Kansas Community College and took a semester at Kansas University. This is my first semester enrolled in Commercial Art course and I hope to gain a better understanding of which direction I want to go. I have mostly taken drawing classes and feel that that is where I am the strongest. Charcoal is my favorite medium and I enjoy drawing from a realistic point of view. This semester I hope to expand my knowledge and venture into new areas in order to progress as an artist. Lauren A.Downing
