My Set Goal

With half of the semester behind me, I feel that it it's time to start setting goals for my last critque. I plan to have a handful of fully finished ipad drawings. To tie all of my work and my research project together I hope to finish with enough quality work to prove that the ipad has been a worthy component added to the art criqulium. I will be participating in the PSU Research Colloquium by designing a poster for the computation. Here is my abstract.

The New Digital Canvas
As our society has become a tech savvy generation many changes have been established. In the spring of 2014, a new class was offered to students in the Art Department of Pittsburg State University.A 3 credit class highlights the advancements in technology, by focusing on constructing artwork through the use of an iPad
The purpose of my research is to gain an understanding of the use of the iPad as an artist tool, and the benefits it offers to us. The world around us is only changing and I believe that it is important to keep up with the time in order to succeed.
I plan to create my own work in the recommended applications of the iPad. Along the way I will sortthrough the work of professional artists who have chosen to work in this technique. I will also speak with the students of PSU to gain feedback and artwork from those familiar and unfamiliar with the new digital canvas. Everyone is bound to their own opinion and not all are fond of the iPad existing as an artists canvas. In ordered to create a strong standpoint I will also look to those who believe that the iPad takes away from the creation process of art.
Many have found the iPad to be very useful and certainly enjoy working on the device. An iPad and stylist are included with the enrollment of the PSUs class IPad for the Artist. Students are then asked to purchase a few applications, which are reluctantly low in cost. With the high cost of tuition and books, the iPad is a cost efficient tool in comparison to the materials purchased for other classes. The tablet is a no mess workspace that can be transported anywhere. The convenience of the device opens up more time to create.
It also provides endless options that can easily be manipulated. Some have even found it to be a faster process. Creations on the iPad can be instantly uploaded to the internet and quickly intertwined into other art forms. And the most important conclusion that was brought to my attention is that student are comfortable on the iPad which leads then to pushes their limits and convey new ideas.
Instructor James Oliver leads the class through working in the new medium. Thanks to the faculty ofPorter Hall and the higher administrative of Pittsburg State University, students continue to advanceand are able to benefit from the new digital canvas.

Welcome!

Welcome to Lauren Downing's Art Blog. I am currently a student at Pittsburg State University. My major is Commercial Art and my minor is Graphic Design. Before Pitt State I attended Kansas City, Kansas Community College and took a semester at Kansas University. This is my first semester enrolled in Commercial Art course and I hope to gain a better understanding of which direction I want to go. I have mostly taken drawing classes and feel that that is where I am the strongest. Charcoal is my favorite medium and I enjoy drawing from a realistic point of view. This semester I hope to expand my knowledge and venture into new areas in order to progress as an artist. Lauren A.Downing
